A babà for Raffaele Sanzio

There is nothing more suggestive than visiting a museum at night. And if it comes to the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, the emotion is even greater.

This year the director opened the doors of his museum to host the presentation of the calendar of the famous Di Meo winery and winery.

The brothers Generoso and Roberto Di Meo brought a little Campania to Vienna. Among lemon trees allocated for the occasion in the museum, a rich buffet was prepared based on products and dishes typical of our region: buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, excellent pasta and, of course, the best wines of the Di Meo winery (from the red Aglianico to the white Falanghina, Greco di Tufo and Fiano).

For what concerns the sweets could not miss His Majesty the Babà of Gambrinus as expressly requested by the brothers Di Meo. Among the Viennese traditions, they made a fine show, over 1000 babas and two spectacular babà cakes that did not fail to attract the greedy attention of the many Austrians present.

I had the honor of representing my company and my family in the city of Sissi and Mozart in an all-new union of Naples-Vienna but certainly successful. It was unusual and interesting to see the more than eight hundred guests wandering through the museum halls eating the babas while admiring the masterpieces of world painting (among others the paintings by Albrecht Dürer, Pieter Paul Rubens, Tiziano, Diego Velázquez, Pieter Brueghel, Caravaggio without forget the Neapolitan Luca Giordano).

Let personal engraving be allowed: tasting it while admiring the “Madonna del Belvedere” by Raffaello Sanzio has made my baba tastier. Perhaps even the great Master of the Renaissance would have liked the babà of Gambrinus.
